IV / EV CALCULATOR
Gen 3 stat formula · IV range finder · EV planner · Pokérus · Nature multipliers
Gen 3 EV system: Unlike later games, Gen 3 has no per-stat cap — a Pokémon can have up to 65,535 EVs in a single stat. However, only the first 255 EVs contribute to each stat (floor(EV/4) is applied), and only the first 252 make a practical difference. The total across all stats is capped at 510. This calculator uses the standard 252 competitive limit per stat, but explains why.
Pokérus (RSE): A rare virus that doubles EV gain from all battles. A Pokémon with Pokérus earns 2× EVs per KO, stacking with EV items. In Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald, the only EV-boosting items are Vitamins (Protein, Iron, etc.) which add 10 EVs each and cap at 100 EVs per stat. Pokérus doubles battle EVs only, not Vitamin EVs.

RANGE
🔍 IV FINDER — What IVs give a specific stat value?
Enter an observed in-game stat value to find the possible IV range. Works best at level 50 or 100.
⚡ HIDDEN POWER CALCULATOR
In Gen 3, Hidden Power's type and power are determined entirely by a Pokémon's IVs.
Enter IVs below (or click Copy from IV Calc to use the values above).
Enter IVs above to calculate Hidden Power type and power.
Max power of 70 requires all IVs to be odd-numbered after the bit calculation. Most competitive spreads aim for HP 70.
Note: In Gen 3, Hidden Power's base power ranges from 31–70 (unlike Gen 6+ which fixed it at 60).
The type cycles through 16 types (not Normal).
🌱 GEN 3 EV TRAINING REFERENCE
Key Gen 3 EV sources. All Gen 3 games share the same EV yield system. Pokérus doubles battle EVs.
Gen 3 EV cap quirk: In Gen 3, EVs are stored as a single byte per stat (0–255). The stat formula divides EVs by 4 (flooring), so 252 and 253 give the same result. Having 252 EVs in one stat and 252 in another uses 504 of the 510 total, leaving 6 for a third stat — which gives +1 to that stat. This is the origin of the "252/252/6" spread competitive players use in Gen 3.
A neutral nature (same stat +/−) has no effect. All others give ×1.1 to one stat and ×0.9 to another.
In Gen 3, a parent holding Everstone has a 50% chance to pass its Nature to the offspring.
🥚 HATCH COUNTER
Steps = walking while egg is in party. Flame Body / Magma Armor halves this (get Slugma or Magcargo from Route 113).
🥚
BREEDING CALCULATOR
Select two compatible parent Pokémon to see what egg moves the offspring can inherit, compatibility check, and hatch step counter.
Tip: Select Ditto as Parent A to breed with almost any Pokémon regardless of egg group.
The offspring is always the lowest-evolution form of the ♀ parent (or non-Ditto parent).
